Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan has become the third Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly to smash at least three hundreds in World Cup. The 33-year-old, who hit two hundreds in 2015 World Cup, reached the three-figure mark in 95 balls against Australia in the 2019 World Cup on Sunday. Overall, it was the 33-year-old’s 17th ODI hundred.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have become the most successful opening pair against Australia in ODI cricket, overtaking the tally of 1,152 runs achieved by West Indies pair of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes. Rohit and Dhawan achieved the feat during the 2019 World Cup match against Australia on Sunday, breaking the previous record in seven fewer innings (22 innings).

Rohit fastest to 2,000 ODI runs vs a team, breaks Sachin’s record

India opener Rohit Sharma has become the fastest batsman to score 2,000 runs against a particular team in ODIs, achieving the feat against Australia during his 57-run knock in their World Cup match today. The 32-year-old reached the milestone in 37 innings, breaking the record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who reached 2,000 ODI runs also against Australia in 40 innings.

Action on terror took place in J&K, not Pak: Pawar on Balakot strike

NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday slammed PM Narendra Modi’s assertion of “hitting the enemy in their home”, claiming that the Balakot airstrike against terrorists actually took place in Kashmir and not in Pakistan. “People don’t have information about the LoC and the situation there. 32-yr-old man killed over ₹100 bet in Ludo in Bengaluru, 4 arrested

Four people were arrested in Bengaluru after a 32-year-old man was allegedly stabbed on Friday for refusing to pay ₹100 after losing a mobile Ludo game. The prime accused attacked the victim with a sharp weapon and his friends dragged him onto the middle of the road. During interrogation, the accused said they routinely played Ludo and placed bets.

Russian sailors sunbathe during near collision with US warship

Russian sailors were spotted sunbathing on the deck of their warship during a close encounter with a US warship in the East China Sea. The near collision between the two destroyers, USS Chancellorsville and Admiral Vinogradov, occurred on Friday. Following the close encounter the US said, “We consider Russia’s actions during this interaction as unsafe and unprofessional.”

Writer loses book deal over a tweet, sues US publisher for ₹93 crore

Jordanian-American author Natasha Tynes has sued US-based publisher Rare Bird Lit, seeking ₹93 crore ($13.4 million) in damages for cancelling a book deal following a controversy over her tweet. On May 10, Natasha had tweeted a photo of a Washington Metro worker eating during a break. Several people on Twitter criticised her, following which she apologised, and deleted the tweet.

Goa government launched app-based taxi service GoaMiles’ executive Hemant Prabhu Chodnekar has said, “GoaMiles is not opposing Ola or Uber. That is the decision of the government at the end of the day.” “We support technology, we believe in technology,” Chodnekar added. Goa’s private taxi associations have been at loggerheads with GoaMiles, accusing it of encroaching on their livelihood.

4 killed as wall of abandoned rice mill collapses in Odisha

At least four people were killed and several others were injured after a wall of an abandoned rice mill collapsed in Odisha’s Dhenkanal. The wall became shaky following bouts of rains over the last few days, a police official said. He added, “The laterite bricks came down crashing on the traders and others who were near it.”

Goa taking all precautions against Nipah virus: Health Minister

Amid Nipah virus scare in Kerala, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit P Rane said that the state government is taking all the precautions to counter it. He added, “Goa’s health director will take all necessary steps in public interest and the health secretary will monitor it.” Rane urged people to consult a doctor if they notice any symptoms of the virus.

Govt planning ICAI-like national institute for valuers

Corporate Affairs Secretary Injeti Srinivas has said the government is considering setting up a national institute for valuers on the lines of chartered accountants’ apex body ICAI. Srinivas further urged the Registered Valuer Organisations (RVO), currently eleven in number, to develop a code of conduct for the valuers. Valuation professionals are qualified to determine the value of an asset.

Sitharaman to meet economists for pre-Budget consultations

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to meet economists, banks, financial institutions and industry chambers between June 11-June 23 as part of pre-Budget consultations. The government has also sought inputs on the Union Budget 2019-20 from citizens on the ‘mygov.in’ portal. The Budget will have to address issues such as slowing economy, rising non-performing assets (NPAs) and job creation.
