Singer Justin Bieber on Monday tweeted that he wants to challenge actor Tom Cruise to a fight in the Octagon. His tweet further read, “If you don’t take this fight you’re scared.” On Tuesday, Bieber shared a clip of the fight scene from Tom Cruise’s 1992 film ‘Far And Away’ with himself photoshopped in as the opponent of Tom’s character.

Ranveer Singh pays tribute to young fan who passed away

Ranveer Singh took to his Instagram story to share a collage of his pictures with Jatin Dulera, a young fan who passed away on Monday. “RIP li’l homie,” Ranveer captioned the story. Photographer Viral Bhayani also shared a post on Instagram and revealed, “He was…getting ready to go to office and collapsed in his bathroom as his breathing stopped.”

Bhupen Khakhar’s painting on gay love sold for ₹22 crore, sets record

Late Indian artist Bhupen Khakhar’s painting on homosexuality, ‘Two Men in Benares’, fetched ₹22 crore at a Sotheby’s auction, setting a new auction record for the painter. The painting shows two naked men in embrace. Khakhar had first unveiled the painting in 1985-86, becoming the first Indian artist to freely disclose his sexual orientation through his work.

Sweat on Sanji’s face on cold morning raised doubt: Kathua investigator

RK Jalla, chief investigator of the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua, said the sweat on accused temple priest Sanji Ram’s face on a chilly January morning made him doubt Sanji. Jalla added Sanji asked him to check his son Vishal’s call records in a “boastful voice”. Sanji and two others have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

IMA Jewels owner missing after raising ₹2,000cr; thousands protest

The owner of Bengaluru-based IMA Jewels, which had collected over ₹2,000 crore from the public, has gone missing leading to protests by thousands of investors outside the company’s office. Mohammed Mansoor Khan purportedly stated in an audio clip that he was ending his life before fleeing. Meanwhile, reports said that he had fled to the UAE on June 8.

Chennai IT employee sets off mini bomb after failed extortion bid

A 29-year-old engineer was arrested for setting off a mini bomb in a Chennai IT park because his plan to extort ₹50 lakh from his company failed. He emailed his employers saying he would trigger a bomb unless they paid him but received no response. He allegedly planned to use the blast to warn his employers of a bigger explosion.

6 arrested in Assam for trying to force women dancers to strip

Assam police has arrested six persons so far in Asolpara molestation case, where over 500 men allegedly tried to force women dancers to strip last week. The women were chased and physically assaulted when they refused to strip. “Most of the girls, college students between the ages of 17 and 18, are still in shock,” said the dance group’s manager.

Former Thai Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha was proclaimed as the country’s civilian Prime Minister on Tuesday after King Maha Vajiralongkorn endorsed his appointment. Prayuth had been serving as the Prime Minister since he led a military coup that toppled an elected government in 2014. He was chosen as the country’s leader by Thailand’s Parliament last week.

Allegation of Chairman siphoning ₹98,000 cr ‘bizarre’: Indiabulls

Mortgage lender Indiabulls Housing Finance’s shares plummeted as much as 8.8% on Tuesday after a writ petition was filed in Supreme Court against Chairman Sameer Gehlaut for allegedly siphoning ₹98,000 crore. The company called the allegation “bizarre”, noting that total loans on its books stood at just ₹90,000 crore. Indiabulls said blackmailers were trying to extort money from the company.

18-yr-old Jemimah Rodrigues signs for Yorkshire Diamonds

India’s 18-year-old top-order batsman Jemimah Rodrigues has been signed by the Kia Super League franchise Yorkshire Diamonds for the 2019 season. The 18-year old is the third Indian player to feature in the league after Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur. Rodrigues has played 25 T20Is for India and scored a total of 608 runs.

Stoinis to miss Australia’s WC match against Pakistan

Adobe India & South Asia MD Kulmeet Bawa has decided to leave Adobe and explore opportunities outside the company, the company stated. Bawa, who had joined Adobe in 2012, is an alumnus of Indian School of Business and the National Defence Academy. He has earlier worked at Microsoft India as Director of Government and Healthcare business.

Smart glasses with autonomous face recognition system made

American firm Vuzix has developed a fully autonomous AI-powered face recognition system in collaboration with Dubai-based software developer NNTC. When synched to ‘Vuzix Blade Smart Glasses’, it lets security personnel discretely screen crowd to match faces against database of violators, missing people or suspects, a press release stated. It detects up to 15 faces per videoframe in under a second.

WhatsApp says may sue users against abuse that violates its rules

WhatsApp, in an updated FAQ “Unauthorized usage of WhatsApp”, said it will use the resources at its disposal, including legal action, to prevent abuse that violates its Terms of Service. The Facebook-owned platform added that starting December 7, it will take the said action even if the evidence against a user or company is found outside of its own platform.

Bengal not a toy, can’t play with it: Mamata Banerjee to BJP

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday targetted BJP and said, “Bengal isn’t a toy. You can’t play with it. You can’t do anything you want with Bengal.” She said this at an event to unveil a new statue of social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. Banerjee accuses BJP of vandalizing Vidyasagar’s statue during BJP President Amit Shah’s roadshow in May.

Maharashtra autorickshaw drivers demand Ola, Uber shutdown

Over 10 lakh autorickshaw drivers across Maharashtra will go on an indefinite strike from July 9 if their demands aren’t met by June-end, a union leader stated. They’ve demanded shutdown of ride-hailing services like Ola and Uber and revised auto fares. They’ve also reportedly demanded a welfare body for autorickshaw drivers, making them eligible for pension, provident fund, other benefits.

IAF to airdrop search teams where AN-32 wreckage found

After locating missing AN-32 aircraft’s wreckage at an altitude of 12,000 feet, Indian Air Force (IAF) on Tuesday said it’ll airdrop search teams on Wednesday morning for searching more wreckage and possible survivors. The search team will include Garud commandos, IAF mountaineers and other ground forces. “Ground forces will continue to reach the crash site during the night,” IAF tweeted.

Govt scraps 10% export incentive on onions as prices go up

The government on Tuesday scrapped 10% incentive on the export of fresh and chilled onions to discourage overseas sales of the commodity. The move comes after onion prices jumped around 48% in a month due to falling supplies. The government had in December 2018 doubled the rate of incentives from 5% to ensure better returns for farmers.

TRAI asks Tata Tele to refund unspent balance of users

Telecom regulator TRAI has directed Tata Teleservices to refund the unspent balance of its pre-paid mobile subscribers as well as the security deposit of its postpaid users in 16 circles. This comes after the company had surrendered administratively-allocated spectrum in these circles. The company has been asked to submit a compliance report by August 20.

Bring down corporate tax to 18% without exemptions: CII

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has urged the government to reduce corporate tax rate to 18% along with the elimination of all exemptions. The move won’t result in any loss to the exchequer, the industry body added. It further said the government should take steps to spur investment and growth, which slowed to five-year low of 6.8% in 2018-19.
