2 female scientists leading 2nd Moon mission Chandrayaan-2
India’s second Moon mission Chandrayaan-2, the nation’s first attempt to land spacecraft on the Moon, is being headed by two female scientists Ritu Karidhal and Muthayya Vanitha. Karidhal, deputy operations director for Mars mission, is the mission director for Chandrayaan-2 whereas Vanitha, an electronics systems engineer, is the project director. The mission is scheduled to launch on July 15.
5 policemen martyred in Maoist attack in Jharkhand’s Seraikela
At least five police personnel including two sub-inspectors and three jawans were killed in a Maoist attack in Jharkhand’s Seraikela on Friday. Maoists attacked a police patrolling team when it reached the weekly market at Kukdu Bazar. Rescue and relief operations are being conducted, Additional Director General (Operations ) ML Meena said.
Southern Railways withdraws order asking staff to use only Eng, Hindi
The Southern Railways, in a circular to Chennai division staff, said official communication between Divisional Control Offices and Station Masters should either be in Hindi or English as using regional language could lead to miscommunication. However, the order was withdrawn and a revised circular directed staff to be highly cautious when communicating but gave no direction on language usage.
Trump says UK Queen had more fun with him than in 25 years
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Queen Elizabeth II had more fun with him during his state visit to the United Kingdom this month than she has had in 25 years. “I have such a great relationship, and we were laughing and having fun,” Trump added. India allows 1 lakh tonnes of corn imports at lower duty
India has allowed two state-run trading companies, MMTC and NAFED, to import 1 lakh tonnes of corn for poultry farms in 2019-20 at a concessional 15% import tax. This comes after prices of the animal feed jumped in the country because of drought. The government otherwise imposes a 60% import tax on the grain.

Water crisis worsens in Nashik; only 5% water left in dams
The water crisis in Maharashtra’s Nashik has worsened as 15 out of 24 water reservoirs have gone dry. The overall water stock in reservoirs has also decreased to 5% of its capacity, officials said on Friday. Reportedly, pre-monsoon rainfall in Nashik from June 1 to June 14 was 292.1 mm, compared to 436 mm during the same period last year.

Chhattisgarh man charged with sedition over FB post on power cuts
A 53-year-old man in Chhattisgarh was charged with sedition for allegedly spreading rumours on Facebook over power cuts in the state. The accused, identified as Mangelal Agarwal, had said that the power cuts were because of a tie-up between the Chhattisgarh government and the inverter companies. However, the sedition charges against him were dropped later.

India’s Hexaware buys US’ Mobiquity for ₹1,270cr in its biggest deal
Indian IT services firm Hexaware Technologies on Friday said it bought privately owned Mobiquity for $182 million (₹1,270 crore), to expand its cloud and automation service offerings. This is the largest-ever acquisition by the Mumbai-based company. US-based Mobiquity, whose customers include Amazon Web Services, Rabobank, Philips and Backbase, recorded revenues of $70 million in 2018.
Swiss bank UBS suspends economist after ‘Chinese pig’ comment
Swiss bank UBS placed its chief economist Paul Donovan on leave following a backlash after he made a reference to Chinese pigs when discussing inflation. He attributed rise in Chinese consumer prices to sick pigs, referring to the impact of African swine fever on pork prices. “Does this matter? It matters if you are a Chinese pig,” Donovan had said.
