Age is just a number, but it requires exceptional self confidence, hard work and values to be able to defy the conventional career progression trend in today’s world. Rohit Mohan is one person who has managed to do so with aplomb. At a very young age, he has been able to shoulder a lot of responsibility and quickly rise up to a leadership position at Credit Suisse.
Rohit is a 2003-05 spring summer batch pass-out from IIPM with a specialisation in finance. He did his summer training at Reliance’s insurance arm. But his first steps towards redefi ning the corporate ladder were taken at CitiFinancial in Delhi. Aft er a valuable stint with CitiFinancial he joined HSBC in November 2005. In HSBC, he worked as a Resident Manger and won quick promotions, which proved very beneficial for his professional growth. Th is followed a successful move to Kotak Mahindra Bank where he worked as AVP, Kotak Private Banking & Wealth Management for 4 years. At present he is working with Credit Suisse where he is a preferred advisor for U-HNI clients. Rohit’s team handles clients for their investment, capital, credit and banking requirement across the globe.
He has experience in advising on products like direct stocks, mutual funds, Portfolio Management Services (PMS), Private Investment in Public Equity (PIPE), Private Equity, real estate investments, venture investing, art funds and structured products in India as well as across the world.
Working hand-in-hand with Investment Banking & Corporate Banking to look aft er specific requirements of clients is also strongly on his agenda for Rohit, whose specialties remain deal making, U-HNI client acquisition, key relationship management and business development. He has been responsible for NRI clients globally and advised them on options available across the world.
Ask his teammates and they will speak volumes on the collaborative approach that Rohit follows so well with them at the office. He believes that in his team on the fi eld has to align with the customers from a long term perspective. Personally, he appreciates and follows VC & MD Uday Kotak’s leadership style. Kotak is also extremely collaborative and client centric. For that lasting relationship, he fi rmly believes in meeting clients to get hands on experience with them. At Kotak, Rohit also makes sure that he gives his clients customised servies.
They have a lot of interactive services for their clients like Golf Coupons at Jaypee Greens and DLF clubs; discounts on big brands and priority passes to name a few.
Since Mohan’s father was in the Army, he got the opportunity to travel all over the country. He did his schooling from Army Public School, and thereaft er pursued his Bachelors in Commerce from Calcutta University. But Rohit really cherishes the entire experience of studying in IIPM in particular. He also likes & still remembers a lot of professors from IIPM, mainly Prof. Dhankarfi nance, Late Prof. P. C. Bagga – Operations Research, Prof. Hari Parmeshwar – Business Law & Prof. K. K. Srivastava – Marketing. He particularly liked the application based style of teaching at IIPM & the concept of open book exams and feels that this helped him to develop, broaden his horizons and increase his knowledge base to a large extent. Rohit believes in on-the-job training, although he has attended a few leadership workshops at ISB Hyderabad. He is also currently pursuing a post-graduate course in International Banking from IIM Bangalore. It’s a one and half years course and he has to go there once in five weeks for four days.
