The Zeal to Learn Continuously

The first impression when you meet Anil Seth, Corporate Learning & Training Manager, Nestlé India, is of a man who is soft -spoken, articulate and down to earth. He belongs to an extraordinary class of people, who believe in creating a diff erent path and trying something new. So it’s not surprising that this IIPM 1995 pass out, started his corporate endeavour with Shriram Honda and went on to achieve much more in life. Anil was always aware of the fact that academic knowledge can be put to best use when blended well with the practical experience on the fi eld. In fact, this marketing and fi nance graduate had the readiness to anil-1learn from his peers at every possible opportunity.

After gaining a considerable experience in the sales and business development function, Anil was attracted towards the sales training function. And once it started to work as he desired, he bid adieu to sales and started devoting his full attention towards training manpower beyond sales force as well. Currently, working with Nestlé India, he is convinced of the fact that there’s a lot to learn from today’s young managers as they bring a lot of energy into the management processes. “Th e need for individuals to accelerate their learning process comes from recent technological and social changes. With more and more organisations moving from hierarchical to networked structure, individuals are now expected to be result oriented rather than being task focused,” he says. Moreover, Anil took little time in mentioning the fact that, it is imperative for leaders to motivate their teams in order to achieve desired results.

Little wonder, flims like Gandhi and Lagaan have helped him sharpen his leadership traits. As his job responsibilities encompasses supporting employee growth and business growth, Anil’s open and flexible leadership style complements his training processes. “Th e outlook of the industry towards switching jobs more frequently has become positive. In order to shape one’s career, change remains the only thing constant,” pointed out Mr. Seth. However, he is still a core believer that there are no shortcuts in the continuous learning of an individual and it pays off well at the end.

Looking at his personal career graph, one can be certain that the continuous learning formula has worked well. However, there’s a secret recipe behind his success. “Th ere has always been a sense of achievement and satisfaction in my eff orts rather than focusing on few tangible aims,” he adds.

While IIPM helped him gain academic edge before he put top gear in his corporate journey, he also met his wife (Sarita) during his MBA years. Perhaps, it is one of the reasons why Anil still recalls his college days and giggles over the sweet memories from his IIPM days.
